Dani interview

From working student to permanent position: Dani's path at Local Brand X

Hello Dani, thank you for taking the time for the interview today. Can you introduce yourself briefly at the beginning?

Hello, as I said, I'm Dani, I'm 25 years old and have been with Local Brand X for almost exactly 2 years. Currently I'm still studying for a master's degree in corporate communication and will be completing my studies in the next few weeks.

You said you have been with Local Brand X for 2 years, what made you decide to start with us?

I started looking for a working student position relatively at the beginning of my studies in Mainz and then became aware of the advertisement for online editing and content production and finally applied there. The position was right from the start and that's why I ended up staying.

What does a typical working day look like for you, which areas do you take care of?

At Local Brand X, I mainly take care of the online magazine and the learning center area, but have also written texts for the website or worked on various media collaborations and articles and created white papers. And I also do smaller SEO analyzes and prepare our texts so that they can be found by search engines like Google and that we achieve better search results. However, I will soon finish my master’s degree and will then start working at Local Brand X in April and will then also take care of tasks in online marketing and get to know other new areas.

In your opinion, what makes Local Brand X unique and why did you decide to stay?

What is very special about Local Brand X for me is that we have very flat hierarchies. In my working student position, I worked a lot with Yannik, our managing director, and knew the whole team relatively quickly, even though I was and still am in the home office a lot.
This location-independent work gave me a lot of flexibility. For me during my studies, but also now in the future, it was simply the perfect job that flexibly adapts to my life situation. As a student in particular, it was always very important to me that I could, for example, go to my parents for a week and generally organize my working hours flexibly.

You come into the communication area - how is it for you to work in the tech area?

In fact, it took me a while to get to grips with all of this Local Marketing Platform, marketing portal or software-as-a-service. I study corporate communication and otherwise have relatively little to do with IT. So in the beginning all these terms were just terms for me. But it's also a lot of fun to think your way through a new topic and over time I've found my way into it more and more. I can now do a lot more with technical details such as APIs or deployment processes than I might have thought 2 years ago. But in general, it's not my first job in tech either - I find the industry super exciting because it is also very future-oriented, develops quickly and, as a result, new tasks and areas of responsibility are constantly being added.

What has been your best experience so far at Local Brand X?

Because I work a lot in the home office, I didn't have so much personal contact with my colleagues from the start. But especially in the time before Corona, this was promoted quite well by the many team events, joint meals, Christmas parties and other small campaigns. I had the feeling, although I wasn't often in the office, that I had arrived in the team very quickly. One of the nicest experiences was definitely my first team event. We enjoyed the sunset with a couple of glasses of wine on a boat trip on the Rhine and then moved on. That was very nice and I hope that we can do more together again soon.

We hope so as well. Thank you for the interview and good luck and fun in your new position.
