The mind behind the dynamic templates: Jonas joins Local Brand X
Hi Jonas! Thank you for taking the time to do the interview. Can you briefly introduce yourself?
Yes, I am Jonas, I am 31 years old and come from Mainz Gonsenheim. I trained as a media designer and then completed a three-year training course as a media technician in addition to my job. It's like a carpenter's master craftsman, only for media designers. After I successfully completed this, I completed further training as an instructor and was also an instructor for the new media designers in my old company.
And what are you doing now at Local Brand X? What does your working day look like here?
I create all templates for customers. This means that when I create new templates, I already receive ready-made data from the corporate design, where everything is clearly designed, and the customer sends me a PDF, recording exactly which parts should be customizable. In other words, what the whole thing should look like and whether the customer can type in their name, for example, or whether this should already be the default setting. I then set up the whole thing and make it available in the portal and for project managers to test. In addition to new templates, I also adapt old templates and add things. The whole applies to both the print templates and the customizable videos.
You've been with us for half a year now — can you give a brief look back at what happened to you?
Yes, everything was new to me in the beginning. With the creation of templates, I had absolutely nothing to do with that. So far, I've mainly used and designed InDesign. I was already very tech-savvy and worked with various Excel workflows, but templates were new to me. But I was able to get along well and was very well supported and received by my colleagues. I've been taught a lot during that time, shown a lot and I always have someone I can ask.
It all sounds very positive, what do you enjoy the most about Local Brand X?
The reason why I switched was, among other things, the working hours. They are very regulated at Local Brand X, which was not the case in the agency before. What I also really like here is the distribution of work, i.e. the ticket system. This gives you a very good overview of what you have to do during the day and by when something needs to be finished. This allows me to organize my work very well and always know exactly what my “to-dos” are.
After your first impression of the company, how would you describe Local Brand X in three words?
I would say flexible, structured, fun.
And lastly, who do you think should apply to Local Brand X?
Everyone (laughs). I would say anyone who enjoys an even smaller — i.e. we are hardly that small anymore, but in contrast to other companies — company. Once again, this has its own dynamic. I also came from a relatively large company, and it's kind of more pleasant and personal here. People should apply who enjoy working for a young team, are looking for a challenge and want something new. Even people who are not yet as deep into topics such as marketing portals or templates can get in.
