Commonly referred to as closed shops are web portals that are only accessible to a closed group of users. Closed shops are used in particular by retailers, publishers, industrial companies or organizations and enable a secure exchange of information between two or more representatives. Especially common are closed shops in the web-to-print or web-to-publish area as well as in marketing management systems. In the case of web-to-print, a closed shop refers to a web or marketing portal accessible to both the company and a printing company. Print, address and payment data as well as information on the status of the order can be exchanged and viewed in a closed shop.
The security of the data concerned is ensured by the closed nature of the web portal. A company can integrate different portals for different customers or areas. These individual closed shops are also called clients.
